Japan Environmental Education Forum

We believe that environmental education, especially those emphasizing nature experiences, helps foster better relationships between people and nature, people and society, and people themselves. It thereby enhances our visions of and approaches to alternative lifestyles more rooted to local communities and increases the quality of our society.

Toward creating a sustainable society, which is one of the most emerging global challenges, the JEEF commits itself to taking an initiative in exchanging and cooperating with various sectors for promoting a variety of environmental education practices and establishing related institutions.

The Japan Environmental Education Forum (JEEF) is a Japan-based Non-Government Organization that aims to inspire the general public, especially the youth, to rethink their daily choices and adapt more sustainable lifestyles.

Officially established in 1992, JEEF is a product of the 1987 Kiyosato Meeting which gathered organizations and individuals in hopes to increase the number of ‘nature schools’ all over Japan.  As of present, JEEF has expanded its reach to neighboring Asian counties and involves governments, companies, the academe, as well as other NGOs and NPOs in developing an appreciation for our natural environment

The Young Environmental Leaders Program (YELP) is an annual endeavor by JEEF focused on creating a venue for young leaders across South East Asia and Japan to meet like-minded individuals determined to create a more sustainable future.
